Re: can mercury (the metal) be magnetized

The types of magnetism are:
 * Antiferromagnetism: Atoms normally line up with their magnetic moments pointing opposite to each other. This is opposed to
* Ferromagnetism: Atoms normally line up with their magnetic moments pointing in the same direction.

There is also
* Diamagnetism: The material is not normally magnetic, but when an external magnetic field is applied the atoms line up their magnetic moments opposite to the external field. Magnetism is lost when the external field is removed.
* Paramagnetism: The material is not normally magnetic, but when an external magnetic field is applied the atoms line up their magnetic moments with the external field. Magnetism is lost when the external field is removed.
