James Bede

James Bede, aeronautical engineer, designed and built this unique automobile in about 1979. It was photographed in the Crawford Auto Museum in Cleveland, Ohio. Where is the Bede Car Today ? After years of aircraft design and engineering, James R. Bede used his experience to develope the Bede automobile in a joint effort with Bede Industries, Inc., of Cleveland, Ohio which was owned by J.R. Bede's cousin named James D. Bede. The car had an unusual propulsion design using a ducted fan in the rear. According to a 1982 article written by Michael L. King, staff writer of the Wall Street Journal, J.D. Bede planned to manufacture the Bede automobile which had been designed by his cousin, J.R. Bede. None were ever produced and this car reportedly burned up.
